About the O-Shot
For many women, weight loss, pregnancy, childbirth, and the natural aging process can take its toll on the vaginal area. The internal tissue can become loose, and there may be a decrease in overall sensitivity. This can lead to certain medical conditions, such as incontinence, or less sexual pleasure due to vaginal dryness, lax skin, and other conditions. Boise, ID plastic surgeon Dr. Dean E. Sorensen offers the O-Shot vaginal rejuvenation therapy for women desiring both overall sexual wellness and to feel like themselves again. The O-Shot is a nonsurgical in-office injectable treatment that uses platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from your own blood to stimulate growth and sensitivity in your upper vagina and clitoris. Many of our patients have enjoyed a renewed sense of being after the O-Shot as it allows them to feel feminine while restoring sexual function. The O-Shot helps treat some sexual dysfunction in women and improve orgasms. It has been shown to help women with various aspects of sexual dysfunction and certain conditions by using PRP to stimulate the growth of new cells, which simultaneously increases sensitivity. You may benefit from the O-Shot if you have:
- Decreased sex drive (libido)
- Ongoing vaginal dryness
- Trouble reaching or having orgasms
- Limited arousal from clitoral stimulation
- Skin laxity or loose vaginal muscles
- Pain during sex
- Pain from episiotomy scars
- Certain forms of urinary incontinence
The O-Shot is performed safely in our Boise, ID plastic surgery center. The treatment starts with one of our medical assistants withdrawing a small amount of blood from your arm. The second step of the procedure is to create the PRP serum. This is accomplished through a separation process with a centrifuge to isolate the growth factors needed for the injection. This newly formed serum is placed into a fine syringe where it will then be injected into the upper vaginal area and clitoris. Depending on your concerns and goals, Dr. Sorensen may combine another nonsurgical vaginal treatment, such as FemTouch, with the O-Shot for optimal results.
What to Expect
After your O-Shot, you should be able to leave our office and resume normal activities. We advise patients to hold off on sexual intercourse or vigorous exercise so that you have time to heal. You may have some mild swelling and sensitivity for the first few days, which should subside naturally. It generally takes a few weeks to see improvements as your vaginal tissue begins to heal and regenerate itself. You should see full results in about three months with increased libido and sensitivity. Typically, results last for 1 – 3 years. We will discuss this with you during your visit and also discuss the potential for any follow-up treatments that may be needed.
