About Microneedling with PRP

Sorensen Cosmetic Surgery Center offers microneedling, a procedure that creates tiny punctured holes into the skin on your face, neck, or chest to stimulate skin repair. As an added benefit, your own platelet-rich plasma (PRP) can be applied to the same area to further help tissue healing and regeneration and allow the skin to grow new cells. These two treatments together are often referred to as the Vampire Facial (or Vampire Facelift) and can reduce the appearance of mild wrinkles, scars, dark spots, large pores, and other skin issues. The texture of your skin can be greatly improved to appear smoother and more even without damaging the skin. If you would like to learn more about microneedling with PRP, schedule a one-on-one consultation at our Boise, ID plastic surgery center.

Ideal Candidates

The perfect candidate for microneedling with PRP would be anyone looking to change the appearance or texture of the surface of their face. Dry skin, uneven skin tone, rough texture, age spots, loose skin, wrinkles, acne, and scarring are all skin conditions that could benefit from a microneedling with PRP treatment. This treatment can also be used to help combat the effects of sun damage that may have caused your skin to have a rough texture or hyperpigmentation.

Procedure Technique

Prior to the microneedling section of your treatment, someone from our medical staff will draw your blood for the PRP collection. The drawn blood will then be taken to our lab for the separation process where your stem cells, platelets, and growth factors will be condensed into a PRP formula that can be injected into the skin. For the microneedling treatment, Sorensen Cosmetic Surgery Center uses the FDA-approved, state-of-the-art device, SkinPen, to create tiny holes in your skin. The small needles used will not damage your skin but will instead help stimulate the production of collagen. Once the microneedling aspect of the treatment is complete, the PRP serum will be applied (injected and gently massaged into the skin) to penetrate the deeper layers. After the PRP is fully absorbed, we will remove the serum layer on the surface and cleanse your skin.

What to Expect

Following your microneedling with PRP treatment, you may experience some normal effects, such as bruising, swelling, and redness. We recommend that you do not wear makeup, use abrasive skin cleansers or submerge in a swimming pool for approximately 72 hours post-treatment. These activities can expose your skin to harsh chemicals and bacteria, which could lead to adverse reactions. You should also intentionally avoid sun exposure or use protective measures when going outside. Final results are typically seen within several weeks as the skin works to repair and heal itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does microneedling with PRP cost?
Microneedling with PRP treatments will be priced according to the size of the area(s) being treated. After your initial consultation to develop your custom treatment plan, your cost will be discussed. Sorensen Cosmetic Surgery Center often offers discounts on packages of several treatments, like microneedling with PRP, as well as monthly treatment specials.

How effective are microneedling with PRP treatments?
The results from microneedling with PRP treatments may not be visible right away, but the growth factors in the platelet-rich plasma serum will help to stimulate the growth of healthier, stronger skin. To get your best results, you may need to get several treatments initially and then maintenance sessions. We will go over realistic expectations during your initial consultation so you know what will happen after your treatment.

How many microneedling with PRP treatments should I get?
Initially, you may want to get a series of microneedling with PRP treatments scheduled every few weeks. Depending on the starting condition of your skin and your specific concerns, a microneedling with PRP treatment plan will be customized for you so that the treatment restores the health and appearance of your complexion. In between microneedling with PRP treatments, you may want to schedule a facial or other skin treatment to remove dead skin layers and nourish the new growth.

Should I get microneedling with PRP or injectable wrinkle treatments?
While microneedling with PRP will provide long-term rejuvenation and strengthen the treated skin, injectable wrinkles treatments provide more immediate results. Depending on your goals, you may prefer microneedling with PRP alone or you may want to combine it with an injectable wrinkle treatment, like BOTOX or a dermal filler.
